We filmed this a few years before the pandemic. Winter of 2016; brutally cold. Lights were shattering the moment they were brought outside. I don't think I'll ever willingly shoot overnights again if I can help it. Everyone is trying so hard to stay awake and so there's really not much time to think about anything else. I tried split pea soup for the first time on this film and I remember being surprised by how much I liked it. I never thought of this film as "sci-fi" and don't think I ever will. Is it one? Not sure. We world-premiered at the wonderful Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. It was a really good fit for us. At the time, I didn’t realize that my peculiar fascination with isolation was actually foreshadowing a greater dilemma I would face years later. My desire to hide would only then be perpetuated by a global pandemic. Laurence Sterne once said "In solitude the mind gains strength and learns to lean upon itself." I have found the exact opposite to be true.
